Until we are willing and able to make the connections between what we are eating and what was required to get it on our plate, and how it affects us to buy, serve and eat it, we will be unable to make the connections that will allow us to live wisely and harmoniously on this earth.
WILL TUTTLE, AUTHOR OF THE WORLD PEACE DIET
YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT, BUT DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU’RE EATING?
I look at cancer as a gift of healthy learning, but some of the things I’ve learned are quite disturbing and disheartening. Sadly, there are a lot of things happening in our world today that could have devastating effects on how long we live and what conditions we live in. We are only uncovering the start of what the next generations will see and endure, unless we all make some serious changes to how we live.
I’m talking about the changes in our food supply due to the mass production and processed foods. I know this is a difficult topic and many people “don’t want to know” as they feel it’s too hard to change and nothing will help anyway. I believe it can and will change. Together we are billions of people. We can make a difference by our choices.
Money and power have become such huge directors in our society and our food supply. These are two of the biggest reasons our food supply is in the state it’s in and getting worse. Food manufacturers are receiving large monetary benefits while providing unhealthy, processed foods and using creative advertising to entice purchases. Look at the word “natural”. It’s constantly used on packaging, but it doesn’t necessarily provide good nutrition. There are no regulations or criteria required to use it. How many times have you been enticed to buy something because it says “natural”? I was and still am sometimes.
The difference now is that I have more knowledge and can read the ingredient label. For example, a product labelled “all natural” cannot contain added colour, artificial flavouring, or synthetic substances. However, these products can contain natural flavouring, colour, additives and preservatives, which are all produced in a lab. They can also contain various processed sweeteners. Our body has to work so hard to digest these products. Why eat these foods and challenge your system when eating food the way Mother Nature intended is what the body needs and thrives on?
Food is contributing to a very sick world. The reality is that our food supply doesn’t provide the nutrients that it used to and this is a big factor in why people are getting sick. The pesticides and toxins used in conventional farming are leaving chemical residue in your food, soil and water.
The Environmental Protection Agency reports that the majority of pesticides now in use are probable or possible cancer causers. Studies of farm workers who work with pesticides suggest a link between pesticide use and brain cancer, Parkinson’s disease and various other cancers.
Organic is the way Mother Nature
